You are indelible-
Years since we spoke;
Yet I miss you so deeply.
Bitterness dissipated;
I would see you again.
I can slip into yesterday
Like an old school dress;
Ill-fitting, faded-
Yet comforting;
Short reveries from
An unrepeatable time.
You decided not to grow old
With your loyal chum;
How you stabbed my heart,
Yet helped me
All on one day.
My dream-world shattered;
I sought the truth.
Suddenly ties severed-
The magic of youth disappeared.
Careless words magnified the gaping wound;
I hated that you were so hard to release.
I hoped my name would later,
Come to your lips
As yours does to mine,
This very day;
I can only hope that those years
Weren’t in vain…
And that I may have been
Indelible.
